Why You Should Not Sleep With Your Phone Under Your Pillow

Cell phone safety is an important issue in today's world. Everyone knows that they're dangerous. But exactly how dangerous? We don't know yet, but they are dangerous.
It is a common habit today that when we sleep we place our mobile phone under our pillow. Experts are saying it is not safe to sleep with your phone under your pillow. The reasons are not far-fetched. Here are what experts are saying.

Study shows that sleeping next to your mobile phones are extremely dangerous due to its harmful radiation. This is the primary cause of Brain Cancer.

Do you know that most cell phones have about 884 MHz wireless signals when it is on? This simply means that your phone is constantly emitting radiation all the time when you on it? So what do you think about it?
Studies have shown that if you keep your cell phone close to you for a period of very long time, it will cause headache, muscle pain, or cancer if it is serious. It is not a guaranteed that you will get these illnesses if you do that. However, it greatly increases the probability of getting it. The “under the pillow” angle of cell phone radiation is just a subset of a larger discussion on the topic of cell phone radiation in general.
Though there is some evidence to support harmful effects of cell phone use on the brain, the jury is out on brain cancer or brain tumors and cell phone use. Studies have not shown a consistent link between cell phone proximity and cancer, however there has been some suggestion of a link between cell phones and brain and central nervous system tumors.

Under your pillow is probably not the best place to keep your cell phone while you are sleeping. Get a cheap digital alarm clock at the dollar store and put it on your nightstand.

Children are especially vulnerable to radiation, the report recommends that parents not allow their children under the age of 10 to use mobile phones except in emergencies, or to sleep with cellular phones under their pillows. It recommends using corded land lines whenever possible, and using cellular phones mostly as answering machines, turning them on only to check messages and return calls. Use of cell phones inside buildings or in cars increases cancer risk, as it increases the radiation a phone must emit to function. Use of text messages and non-wireless headsets can reduce cancer risk. The report also advises against carrying cell phones against the body, even in pockets.

*Ways to Reduce Cell Phone Radiation.
*Using speaker instead of talking directly into the handset.
*Text instead of talking.
*Use headphones or Bluetooth connectors.
*If you are using your phone at night for its clock or alarm features, consider putting it in “airplane mode” which
*suspends the phone’s transmission functions.
*Keep it a several feet away while you sleep.

The monkey man in India.

A man with a 14.5-inch hairy tail growing from his back has been hailed as a god by villagers in India.
Chandre Oraon, 35, was born with a patch of hair on his lower back and has refused to have it cut, leading to locals believing that he is an incarnation of Hindu monkey deity Hanuman.
Worshippers travel hundreds of miles to queue up outside his house in Alipurduar, West Bengal, to seek blessings by touching his tail.

Mr Oraon, who works as a tea picker, said: ‘I am Hanuman. People have a lot of respect for me because of my tail. I don't mind the tail at all. It is a gift by god.’
His followers see his ability to climb trees as proof that he is Hanuman, and believe he has healing powers

Monika Lakda, who had travelled overnight to see Mr Oraon at his small makeshift shrine, said: ‘My brother's son was once very unwell and had fever.
‘We gave him medicine but it did not work. So we came to Chandre to seek his blessings. The baby recovered soon after that.
‘We believe that Chandre is an incarnation of Hanuman. They say he was born on the Holy Hanuman day. So we have faith in him.’

Doctors have offered to have the long tail removed, something which Chandre has vehemently resisted.
He said: ‘Once my mother chopped of my tail when I was young. Soon after, I got a high fever and I was very sick. My mother told me that I almost died.
‘After that, everyone said I must keep the tail. My family said they felt me getting sick was a sign that my tail was divine.’

Mr Oraon’s tail is a result of the birth defect spina bifida, which can result in lower-back growths or, as in Mr Oraon’s case, a tuft of hair, which can grow into a tail if left uncut.
Spina bifida occurs when the spinal column does not close all of the way down – it is one of the most common permanently disabling birth defects.
It is highly likely that Mr Oraon was born with a form of spina bifida called spina bifida occulta.
A spokesperson for Shine, a spina bifida charity, told MailOnline that it is quite common for children with spina bifida to have a hairy patch on their back.
Mr Oraon's uncle, Baldev Ram, said: ‘With age, his tail has also been growing longer. So, we realised very early that he has the blessings of God.’
Despite having found fame as a revered Godman, Mr Oraon admits it wasn't always easy.
He said: ‘When I was young, kids in the village used to make fun of me and my tail.
'They used to laugh. They used to pull my tail just for fun.’
And he revealed that his tail was also a turn-off for the ladies - with his family saying over 20 women rejected his romantic advances before he met wife Maino, 38.
He said: ‘A few women rejected my proposals. I had gone to see a girl once. She immediately noticed that I have a tail.
'She refused to marry me there and then. She said to my face it was because of my tail.’
Mr Oraon married Maino, 38, in 2007, before the couple had a daughter, five-year-old Radhika.
He is persevering with plans to build his own temple so he can offer mass blessings.
He said: ‘I want to build a temple. But I am poor man, so I am looking for some help. I work but then I don't earn much, so I need to find other ways to fund my dream.’

Court grants pastor’s request, dissolves 20-year-old marriage

An Orile-Agege Customary Court in Lagos on Wednesday dissolved a 20-year-old marriage of a pastor who had accused his wife of adultery, stealing and threatening his life.

Pastor Olufemi Adewumi, 44, who lives at 12, Ajiboye Close, Ile-Iwe, Agbado Oke-Odo, Agege, came to the court on Dec.12, 2013, seeking the dissolution of his marriage to Fatimo, his wife.

Ruling in the case, the Court President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, said that the marriage had broken down irreparably.

“Since the inception of the hearing, the woman failed to appear before the court; a court summon was served to her, but she failed to come.

“The court cannot continue to wait for the woman that failed to honour the court.

“So, the marriage is dissolved today. You have ceased to be husband and wife, you shall go your separate ways unmolested,” he said.

Omilola granted custody of their two children, aged 12 and 15 years, to the man.

“Take care of the children and ensure you see to their well being,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the pastor had told the court that his wife was adulterous and kept bad company.

“I caught my wife and one of her lovers in her house sometime in 2013. She was not expecting me to come home at that time, else she would not have invited her lover,” he said.

The petitioner had also told the court that his wife kept bad company and he tried in vain to keep her away from her bad friends.

He said that money also got missing in their room on some occasions and described his wife as a fetish woman who threatened his life.

“I want the dissolution of the marriage and custody of my children,” he had said.(NAN)

New Born Baby Dumped Dead At Ikorodu By A Wicked Mother

A callous and wicked woman dumped the pictured baby above overnight at Benson bus stop Ikorodu Lagos Nigeria. Onlookers tried to rescue the baby but realised the poor male child was dead! Too bad, even animals do not dump their newborns.

This is the height of insanity, I urge ladies to have a rethink about terrible acts like this. If you are not ready for the baby simply avoid the act or protect yourself and when inevitable, do not ever dump the baby. Don’t!  Source: Nija News

10 things you should know about orgasms

You over there! Don’t be shy…orgasms are as much a part of women’s health as dental floss—but a lot more fun. For all the things you’ve been dying to find out as well as things you’ve never even thought of, expand your knowledge about the “big O” with this list of enlightening facts.

1. Orgasms can relieve pain.
Got a headache? Maybe you should have sex after all. “There is some evidence that orgasms can relieve all kinds of pain—including pain from arthritis, pain after surgery and even pain during childbirth,” notes Lisa Stern, RN, MSN, a nurse practitioner who works with Planned Parenthood in Los Angeles and blogs at Gynfizz.com. “The mechanism is largely due to the body’s release of a chemical called oxytocin during orgasm,” she says. “Oxytocin facilitates bonding, relaxation and other positive emotional states.” While the pain relief from orgasm is short-lived—usually only about eight to 10 minutes—she points to past research indicating that even thinking about sex can help alleviate pain.

2. Condom use doesn’t affect orgasm quality.
In case you’re wondering if a condom has anything to do with the quality of your orgasm, don’t. “Women are equally likely to experience orgasm with or without a condom, dispelling myths that condoms don’t make for good sex,” says Debby Herbenick, PhD, a research scientist at Indiana University and author of Because It Feels Good. “In fact, condoms may help a couple spend more time having sex, as a man doesn’t have to ‘pull out’ quickly if he’s worried about ejaculating too soon,” she says. If your guy is resistant to wearing a condom because of lack of sensation, consider manual stimulation first, before intercourse, so he can have an equally enjoyable experience.

3. Thirty percent of women have trouble reaching orgasm.
If you’ve ever had trouble climaxing, you’re not alone. According to Planned Parenthood statistics, as many as 1 in 3 women have trouble reaching orgasm when having sex. And as many as 80 percent of women have difficulty with orgasm from vaginal intercourse alone. Clitoral stimulation during intercourse can help, says Stern, but so can medical treatment. “Female sexual dysfunction (FSD), which encompasses the inability to orgasm, is very common—as high as 43 percent, according to some surveys—and has been a topic of much debate and medical investigation lately,” she says. “For some women, topical testosterone therapies or some oral medications can be helpful, but few medical treatments have solid evidence behind them.” Because FSD may be associated with certain medical conditions, be sure to see your doctor to rule out things like thyroid disease, depression or diabetes.

4. Finding your G-spot may improve the likelihood of orgasm.
Can you identify your G-spot? The “G” refers to Ernst Gräfenberg, MD, a German gynecologist who is credited with “discovering” it in the 1950s, and sex experts have long touted this area of female genitalia, which is believed to contain a large number of nerve endings, as the key to helping women achieve longer and stronger orgasm. But it’s a controversial topic. Researchers in England refuted its existence recently, even after Italian researchers supposedly found the spot on ultrasound and published their findings in The Journal of Sexual Medicine. Still, sex educators like Los Angeles–based Ava Cadell support the existence of the G-spot, and encourage women to find theirs. While the location may be slightly different in all women, it’s most often found inside the vagina and is characterized by a “rougher” texture.

5. Orgasm gets better with age.
Sure, there are plenty of things to gripe about when it comes to age, but your sex life may actually improve—specifically the quality and frequency of orgasm, reports Dr. Herbenick. “Orgasm becomes easier with age,” she says. “As an example, while 61 percent of women ages 18 to 24 experienced orgasm the last time they had sex, 65 percent of women in their 30s did and about 70 percent of women in their 40s and 50s did.” Though the survey didn’t indicate why orgasms come easier with age, we can assume that as women become more sexually experienced, they have more confidence in the bedroom and therefore enjoy themselves more. Additionally, the trust and intimacy that most women experience in long-term relationships can help improve sexual confidence as well.

6. Women who mix things up in the bedroom have more frequent orgasm.
If you have trouble reaching orgasm during intercourse, consider switching things up, says Dr. Herbenick. “It is significantly easier for women to experience orgasm when they engage in a variety of sex acts as opposed to just one act,” she says. “For example, vaginal sex plus oral sex would be linked to a higher likelihood of orgasm than either one of them alone. This may be because more sex acts mean that people spend more time having sex.”

7. A woman’s sexual self-esteem can affect the quality of her orgasms.
Research shows that how a woman feels about her genitals is linked to the quality of her orgasms. “As a women’s health clinician, I can vouch for the fact that every vagina looks different and there is no ‘perfect’ way for a vagina to look,” says Stern. “As long as your vagina is pain-free and you don’t have any abnormal discharge, sores or other medical problems, you can consider yourself healthy and normal.” Increase your orgasm potential by increasing your confidence, she says. “It’s important to treat yourself the way you would want others to treat you—send yourself healthy, positive messages about yourself and your body.” Another trick: Pull out a hand mirror and take a look! Getting to know yourself down there is the first step in feeling confident about your parts.

8. There is an orgasm “gap.”
While it’s true that a small number of men have trouble with orgasm, sex experts report that it’s rare. Instead, a significant percentage of women report not having had an orgasm the last time they had sex, even when their male partner thought they had. “We still have an orgasm gap,” notes Dr. Herbenick. “While 85 percent of men thought their partner had an orgasm during their most recent episode of sex, only 64 percent of women reported having an orgasm.” The cure? It’s complicated, says Dr. Herbenick, but women who are comfortable with and understand their body’s pleasure points can often learn to orgasm regularly.

9. In rare cases, orgasm can happen without genital stimulation.
We’ve all heard about women who can orgasm while sitting on a train or while getting a massage, but it’s no urban legend. Experts say it’s a real phenomenon. “I had a friend who had an orgasm every time she used the treadmill,” says Stern. “If that happened to all of us, we’d be a much more physically fit society!” But, humor aside, there’s an explanation for why this occurs. “The reason for spontaneous orgasms during certain activities is twofold—increased blood flow to the genitals and vibration of or contact with the clitoris. The increased blood flow and the general relaxation of a massage can lead to orgasm sometimes, too.”

10. For most women, it takes a while…
Many women take longer to climax than their male partners, and that’s perfectly normal, says Stern. In fact, according to statistics, most women require at least 20 minutes of sexual activity to climax. “If you find that your partner often reaches orgasm before you do, there are ways to help him slow down,” she says. “Mental exercises can sometimes work, and so can firm pressure around the base of the penis. If premature ejaculation is a concern, your partner may want to see a primary care doctor or urologist to find some techniques that might help.”

An angry father, Deji Kamoru, is in trouble for throwing his 14-year old daughter, Aishat, from their three-storey building home after he caught her with her boyfriend in his bedroom.

In annoyance, he allegedly tied Aishat’s hands, tortured her and threw her from the third floor of their house at Oroyinyin Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

Source learnt that when Aishat landed on the ground, she hit her head against a metal object and became unconscious.
The teenager was rushed to Lagos Island General Hospital in Lagos where she is under intensive care.
Though Aishat is still alive, it was gathered that she cannot talk or recognise any body at the hospital.

The police at Adeniji Adele Division arrested Kamoru but later released him on bail so that he could take care of the victim and foot her medical bill.

It was gathered that Kamoru separated from Aishat’s mother some years ago and took custody of their four children, including Aishat, whom he has been living with before the incident happened.
On the day the incident happened, Kamoru, who is a driver and security guard, went to work and returned early to prepare for his night duty but met the door to his apartment locked inside.

Convinced that Aisha was inside and must have locked the entrance door to their apartment, he started knocking at the door until she eventually opened it.
Before Kamoru could react when he sensed that his daughter was with someone, Aishat’s boyfriend reportedly escaped. He lost his temper and allegedly tortured and threw her from the third floor of their house.

The landlord of the house, who did not want his name mentioned, confirmed the incident. he said he was shock that a man would express his anger by causing such pain to his own daughter.

“Though I do not justify what his daughter did, he should have controlled his anger,” he said.
When source visited the hospital, one of the staff told our reporter that the victim has been in coma for days and was later transferred to LASUTH for further examination and treatment.

Story time - Do Not Hurt Yourself

One night a snake while it was looking for food, entered a carpenter’s workshop.
The carpenter, who was a rather untidy man, had left several of his tools lying on the floor. One of them was a saw.

As the snake went round and round the shop, he climbed over the saw, which gave him a little cut.

At once, thinking that the saw was attacking him, he turned around and bit it so hard that his mouth started to bleed.

This made him very angry. He attacked again and again until the saw was covered with blood and seemed to be dead.

Dying from his own wounds, the snake decided to give one last hard bite then turned away. The next morning the carpenter was surprised to find a dead snake on his doorstep.

Lesson to Learn: Sometimes in trying to hurt others, we only hurt ourselves.

The 99 Club.......

Once upon a time, there lived a King who, despite his luxurious lifestyle, was neither happy nor content.
One day, the King came upon a servant who was singing happily while he worked. This fascinated the King; why was he, the Supreme Ruler of the Land, unhappy and gloomy, while a lowly servant had so much joy.
The King asked the servant, 'Why are you so happy?'
The man replied, 'Your Majesty, I am nothing but a servant, but my family and I don't need too much - just a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummies.'
The king was not satisfied with that reply. Later in the day, he sought the advice of his most trusted advisor. After hearing the King's woes and the servant's story, the advisor said, 'Your Majesty, I believe that the servant Has not been made part of The 99 Club.'
'The 99 Club? And what exactly is that?' the King inquired.
The advisor replied, 'Your Majesty, to truly know what The 99 Club is, place 99 Gold coins in a bag and leave it at this servant's doorstep.'
When the servant saw the bag, he took it into his house. When he opened the bag, he let out a great shout of joy... So many gold coins!
He began to count them. After several counts, he was at last convinced that there were 99 coins. He wondered, 'What could've happened to that last gold coin? Surely, no one would leave 99 coins!'
He looked everywhere he could, but that final coin was elusive. Finally, exhausted he decided that he was going to have to work harder than ever to earn that gold coin and complete his collection.
From that day, the servant's life was changed. He was overworked, horribly grumpy, and castigated his family for not helping him make that 100th gold coin. He stopped singing while he worked.
Witnessing this drastic transformation, the King was puzzled. When he sought his advisor's help, the advisor said, 'Your Majesty, the servant has now officially joined The 99 Club.'
He continued, 'The 99 Club is a name given to those people who have enough to be happy but are never contented, because they're always yearning and Striving for that extra 1, saying to themselves: 'Let me get that one final thing and then I will be happy for life.' We can be happy, even with very little in our lives, but the minute we're given something bigger and better, we want even more! We lose our sleep, our happiness, we hurt the people around us; all these as a price for our growing needs and desires.
That's the "Club 99"

The Wise man and The Scorpion

An old man saw a scorpion drowning and decided to pull it out from the water. He calmly extended his hand to reach the creature. When he did, the scorpion stung him. With the effect of the pain, the old man let go the creature and it fell back into the water. The man realizing that the scorpion was drowning again, got back and tried to rescue it but then again it stung him. He let go of it again.

A young boy standing by, approached the old man and said, "Excuse me Sir, you are going to hurt yourself trying to save the evil-vicious creature, why do you insist? Don't you realize that each time you try to help the scorpion, it stings you?"

The man replied, "The nature of the scorpion is to sting and mine is to help. My nature will not change in helping the scorpion."

So the man thought for a while and used a leaf from a nearby tree and pulled the scorpion out from the water and saved it's life.

Do not change your nature. If someone hurts you, just take precautions. Some pursue happiness while others create it. Let your conscience be your guide in whatever you do.

Visit to hospital prompts lawmaker to back medical marijuana

State Rep. Allen Peake visits Haleigh Cox photo

ATLANTA —
Forty-eight hours ago Allen Peake wasn’t sold on medical marijuana, but a visit to a hospital may have convinced the Georgia lawmaker to help draft a bill to make it legal.

Republican state Rep. Allen Peake, of Macon, visited 4-year-old Haleigh Cox in the pediatric intensive care unit at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston on Wednesday.

“When you see that little girl, the precious little angel," Peake said. "It's touched me deep, deep in my soul, so I'm going to do everything I can to see what we can do for these families."

Haleigh suffers from a severe seizure disorder. Her parents said because they can’t get the medicine they need in Georgia, they are relocating to Colorado, where children treated with cannabis oil are seeing amazing results.

Now Peake has joined the Cox family to fight for Haleigh’s life and for thousands of Georgians who could benefit from medical marijuana.

"This has been a huge shift for me," Peake said. "I want to be very clear. We don't want to go down the slippery slope of legalizing marijuana in our state."

Blaine Cloud said his 8-year-old daughter also suffers from severe seizure disorder. Cloud spent Thursday in the state Capitol explaining that medical marijuana is a necessary treatment and that children won’t be smoking it or getting high.

"It can be grown to a certain strain which is high CBD, which is the medicine, and low THC, which is what gets you high," Cloud said.

"It comes in an oil format, just like the Tylenol you take today.  It comes out of a dropper," Blaine said.

Peake joins House Speaker David Ralston, who said he’s open to legalizing medical marijuana as this year’s legislative session opened. Ralston said it’s time to take the politics out of it.
"Why can't we as a state be compassionate enough to look at what makes sense?" Peake asked.  "If it was my child I'd be crawling over broken glass to get legislation passed, as would any legislator who's here.”

Graduate vacancies set to rise by 10%
Association of Graduate Recruiters says double-digit rise is good news, but that candidates must be aware of what potential employers are looking forGraduates celebrate throwing hats into the air
Reason to cheer: graduate opportunities are expected to grow in both the public and private sectors. Photograph: Christopher Thomond
The number of vacancies for university leavers is expected to rise by 10.2%, according to a poll of leading graduate employers.
The survey, published by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR), predicts that a number of industries will have more vacancies, with job openings in IT and telecoms expected to rise by 40%.
The public sector is also predicted to have a large increase in vacancies, up 20% on last year, along with energy, water and utilities, up 17.5%, and banking and financial services, up 15.7%.
However, there are expected to be falls in the numbers of jobs available for university leavers in law,
as well as in investment banking.
AGR chief executive Stephen Isherwood said: "Given the upturn in the economy, and the slight
increase in graduate vacancies recorded last year, we would expect employer predictions to be
fairly buoyant for the year ahead, so an expected rise of more than 10% is welcome news.
However, Isherwood said graduates needed to be focussed if they wanted to be successful in their career search. "Even through the darkest days of the recession our members reported unfilled vacancies because they couldn't find graduates with the right mix of skills and attributes.
"Graduates need to think carefully about their applications and ensure they understand what a
potential employer is looking for."
The survey, which questioned 202 AGR members in 19 industries, also found that school leaver programmes are becoming popular with leading firms.
More than half (54.7%) of AGR members, who traditionally concentrate on recruiting university graduates, are offering job opportunities to school leavers, it found. A further 4% are planning on introducing these types of roles in the next recruitment round (2014/15), while 15% said they hope
to do so at some point in the future.
But jobs for school leavers are not replacing vacancies for university graduates, the poll suggests.
In general, the employers questioned disagreed that offering school leaver positions had resulted in them recruiting fewer graduates.
Isherwood said: "At the moment, it doesn't appear that employers are replacing graduate vacancies
with school leaver vacancies; rather businesses are investing in a range of different programmes to attract and recruit a diverse range of young people – from apprenticeships and higher apprenticeships to school leaver training leading to professional qualifications.
"However, it may be something which will begin to take hold in the future and we look forward to finding out in more detail how this section of the recruitment market is changing to meet the demands of UK plc. It is reassuring that many employers continue to invest heavily in emerging talent."
Universities minister David Willetts said: "The substantial rise in the number of graduate vacancies demonstrates that confidence in the UK economy is growing and businesses really value the skills the UK's first-rate graduates can bring to their companies.
"A degree is still one of the best routes to a good job and a rewarding career. The increased number of graduates has been met by increased demand from employers, which is why we have made the historic commitment to remove the cap on the number of people who could go to university by 2015-16."
A separate survey of schoolchildren by the Association of Colleges reveals that the majority feel good about career prospects, although they are likely to feel more pessimistic as they get older.
The poll, which questioned around 2,000 11- to 16-year-olds, found that about two-thirds (65%) were "positive about their future job options".

The cats were quickly taken in by inmates

The feisty felines found their way into the Great Meadow Correctional Facility and there they have stayed.
The reason they haven’t been kicked out may seem unlikely.
It turns out the inmates like them.
And the feeling seems to be mutual.
The kittens were in poor physical shape when they first “broke in to the prison.
But one prisoner quickly built them a “kitty condo” from scraps and began to care for them.
Now Bruce Porter, the electrician for the pen, takes care of the animals during the week. Porter told The PostStar.com, “I’ve got a soft heart for any sort of animal. I don’t mind helping them out a bit.”
On weekends when Porter is not there, an inmate known as the cat whisperer watches after them.
But Doc, Meadow, Annie, and Comstock -- as they have been named -- won’t have a life sentence in the big house.
The kittens will soon be adopted and have homes of their own.

Bruno Mars' Super Bowl halftime show spiced by much-needed Chili Peppers

Singer delivered exactly what we thought he would – slick, unmemorable pop, ruffled only by his big, fratty brothers

In a GQ interview last year, Bruno Mars’ most lucid moment came when he was asked what the secret to a good song was. He answered: “Hypnotize me in the very first three seconds, wake my ear plate up, give me something that I haven't felt before … and then punch me in the fucking face."
It was an uncharacteristically pithy and astute response. Mars, a former child Elvis impersonator, knows how to write a watertight hit but tends to evince a genial cluelessness about everything else – the world, his place in it, how not to get arrested, etc. His mugshot from last year, following his arrest for cocaine possession, is painfully telling. There’s the uncertain smile and vacant gaze of someone who doesn't quite know how he found himself here, but suspects that they must, nonetheless, persist in attempts at ingratiation.
That might also describe the way he felt about playing the Super Bowlhalftime show, the most illustrious gig in pop, so enormous that its organisers didn’t even pay Mars for that 12-minute performance – they know and he knows, that this is multi-million dollar exposure for him.
It’s a slot that demands an established star with epic wattage. Last year it was the truly peerless Beyoncé; in 2012 it was Madonna, and 10 years ago and most infamously it was Janet Jackson and her wilfully errant right nipple. Mars – diminutive, Fedoraed, a kind of Stepfordian pop-bot with all dials permanently set to “Inoffensively Entertain” – seemed a mystifying choice.
Many, in fact, were more than mystified – they were plain mean. The Puppy Bowl is an annual TV programme on the Animal Planet channel which features dogs messing around instead of men kicking footballs and this year’s halftime show was keyboard cat, the 2011 meme that functions as a coda to online failure. Dressed in a tiny Fedora, the cat bashed out Mars’ Locked Out of Heaven with his paws and from that moment, the sentiment “keyboard cat playing Bruno Mars was better than Bruno Mars playing Bruno Mars” became almost a tweet-cliché.
Mars may not be interesting, but he’s certainly a lot more talented than an animated cat. He began the 12 most important minutes of his career with a paean to a vagina: Locked Out of Heaven is his Police-indebted 2012 hit about “swimming in your water” being “something spiritual”. This didn’t feel like a spiritual experience but, sonically at least, the song seemed appropriately cavernous – a stadium belter that Mars and his fellow gold-suited Hooligans went for, accompanied by all the obligatory son et lumiere.
They followed with last year’s spry disco track, Treasure, in which Mars’ footwork was so fancy and so faultless that it was a little exhausting to watch. No dance move quite yells “I am trying as hard as I possibly can right now to entertain you” the way the splits does.

And then, like a bullying big brother and his fratty friends crashing Mars’ recital, the reassuringly shirtless Red Hot Chili Peppers burst into proceedings to stomp and shout their way through Give It Away.
Throughout, Mars’ grin was tinged with bewilderment, as though he wasn’t quite expecting this, but was going to go along with it and be a good sport anyway. His 12 minutes ended, as everything decreed they must, with, Just The Way You Are, his Grammy-winning, non-biodegradable cornball of a hit about an insecure girl being pretty.
The lack of worldly nous so painfully obvious in that mugshot of his might just be the thing that makes Mars so good at what he does. He was exactly like you – and indeed the anxious, family-friendly organisers of America’s most watched television event – thought he would be: perfectly professional, slick as his pompidour and almost as dull as the football himself.

Los Angeles judge rules R&B singer should stay at treatment facility for substance abuse and anger management

A judge in Los Angeles has turned down prosecutors' motion to jail R&B singer Chris Brown because of his arrest last year on an assault charge in Washington.
Judge James R Brandlin said Brown should stay at a treatment facility for substance abuse and anger management because he was doing well in the court-ordered programme and it gave him an "adequate safety net".
Brandlin sentenced Brown to 90 days in the treatment programme in November following the singer's arrest for assault in October in Washington, where he allegedly punched and broke the nose of a man who was trying to have a picture taken with him.
The judge also revoked Brown's probation from his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy awards.
Brown, 24, has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanour assault in the Washington case and rejected a plea deal that would have reduced the charge to a simple assault.
The singer had his probation from the assault on fellow singer Rihanna extended last year after prosecutors alleged he cut corners on community service.
